President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari has said that terrorist sect, Boko Haram has humiliated Nigeria and its security agents.
Buhari however denied that he had promised to rid the country of the sect in two months.
The President-elect made the statements on Sunday, April 12, 2015 during a meeting with journalists in Daura, Katsina State, his home town.
“For six years, the Nigerian military couldn’t restore order in 14 local governments out of 774 after Barma, Liberia, Sierra Leone, where the Nigerian military earned respect internationally for their performances, to fail to secure 14 out of 774, I see that as an irreconcilable disgrace,” Buhari said.
“I think I am too experienced in internal security operations to make such a comment. I don’t think I will make that mistake because of my experiences. Even when I was in uniform with the rebels in Chad and as the GOC in Jos and the period when I was Head of State, I did not say such thing so, for me to say that I will get rid of Boko Haram in two months is not correct; I don’t think I made that comment,” he added.
“We will try and work with our neighbours such as Chad and Niger who are fighting Boko Haram for us. And we are advising Boko Haram to pack and go,” the President-elect said.
Earlier reports had it that Buhari had made the two-month vow during an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour.
OPC Leaders Ask Gani Adams To Step Down
The National Coordinating Council of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), has asked the National Coordinator of the congress, Otunba Gani Adams, to immediately resign his appointment in order to forestall another “internal war” within the organisation The Nation reports.
OPC Leaders Ask Gani Adams To Step Down
Otunba Gani Adams
Addressing newsmen in Ibadan on Monday, the spokesman of the council, Comrade Adesina Akinpelu, also asked Adams to make open, the OPC’s statements of bank accounts since March 1, 1999 when he was made the National President of the Yoruba socio-cultural group.
Akinpelu called on Yoruba monarchs and governors of the Yoruba speaking states to prevail on Adams not to cause another crisis within the OPC, saying several lives were lost during two of such internal crises fuelled by the OPC’s National Coordinator in Lagos and Ibadan in the past.
He said,  “It is on record that lives of many indigenes of Oyo state and Lagosians were lost in the battles between Otunba Gani Adams and Dr. Fasheun in Lagos and between him (Adams) and Alaka in Ibadan in the past. We will not allow him to shed any blood in Ibadan or Lagos again. Any attempt by him to cause another internal war within the OPC, the battle will be taken to Arigidi-Akoko, his hometown.
“We now know the antics of Gani Adams, and we will never allow him to have his way to start another internal war within the OPC. Just as OPC in Ekiti state has been liberated from the shackles of Gani Adams, other state chapters will be liberated. Oyo OPC has equally been liberated. No amount of threat and intimidation from Gani Adams and his cohorts will stop me and other members of the council opposed to his tyrannical rule from upholding the truth we stand for.  ”
The council accused Adams of using OPC to enrich himself and his family members at the expense of members of the organisation, saying for example, the OPC boss has registered many companies under his name using funds generated from the organization.
According to him, Olokun Foundation, which was approved by UNESCO, is one of such avenues that Adams is using to siphon funds meant for OPC.
“We have discovered that Gani Adams is only after his own interests and not the interests of OPC members. He has over the years used the organization to better the lots of his own family. Gani Adams never funded any of the OPC programmes or cultural festivals, but the contributions of all members are usually used to host such programmes, and yet he collects money from individuals, groups, corporate bodies and state governments without rendering any account to members of the group,” he lamented.
The National Coordinator of OPC, had accused Gani Adams of making President Jonathan lose the presidential elections and was also queried by the council of the organisation to explain what happened to the N1.6 billion campaign fund he allegedly collected from the president and the six million votes he promised the president.

El-Rufai spokesman Samuel Aruwan made this known through the statement adding that Governor Ramalan Yero, who was defeated by the All Progressives Congress politician, also wrote an official congratulatory message to El-Rufai.
It should be recalled that El-Rufai secured victory by polling 1,117,635 vs Yero’s 485,833 votes.
According to Premium Times, Sambo wished the governor-elect a successful tenure in office and urged him to use his wealth of experience for the peace and development of Kaduna state and Nigeria at large.
He also urged Kaduna people to effectively cooperate with the new leader for the state to reach greater heights.

Boko Haram Hiding And Recruiting Locals In Chad
Boko Haram insurgents chased out of Nigeria by the military are reportedly hiding on the remote islands in Lake Chad, terrorising locals and recruiting youths.

Mustapha, a farmer from the Chadian village located close to the Nigerian border, was quoted as saying by Vanguard:
“You see those islands, toward Nigeria? I used to go there to sell my harvest. But with Boko Haram it’s become too dangerous. We don’t move without a military escort.”
Despite a series of successful operations recently conducted by the joint military force of Nigeria and its neighbours, the terrorism in the region has not been totally crushed.
A Chadian security source, who pleaded for anonymity, disclosed:
“Boko Haram are under pressure and some of them are taking refuge in the middle of the lake, on islands with swampy forests that are difficult for the army to reach. Because they are hungry, they are attacking villagers for food.”
It has been obtained, that the attacks have become a common thing on the islands and mainland near Nigeria.
Al Hadji Mbodou Mai, the shopkeeper in Ngouboua, said that the insurgents “stole up to 500 steers” in the town which is now “secured” by the military.
The experts have, however, have that hit-and-run attacks by the sect could increase amid the added military pressure.
Meanwhile the Chadian authorities are concerned about Boko Haram purportedly recruiting locals to join the sect.
The authorities do not have a clear picture on the number of citizens who have taken up arms for Boko Haram and what is motivating those who have done so.
One of the sources revealed:
“We interviewed a boy who was hardly 16 and who has spent two weeks in a camp at the border… He was promised money, but especially Tramol. The authorities try to deal with the problem by talking with their parents and making them understand there be any trouble if the boys come back.”
It should be recalled that after the victory of Muhammadu Buhari at the March 28 presidential election in Nigeria, fresh expectations emerged that the new leader would tackle terrorism in the region. The president-elect vowed that fight with Boko Haram would be one of the main priorities of his administration.
PDP Protesters Attack Owerri Residents
Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, protesting the outcome of the governorship election in Imo State, went on the rampage in Owerri, the state capital, on Monday.
PDP Protesters Attack Owerri Residents
The PDP supporters, who carried placards, demanding that Governor Rochas Okorocha should vacate Government House for their candidate, Emeka Ihedioha, stopped and harassed motorists on Okigwe Road.
The crowd of protesters, who were joined by miscreants, also beat up some road users, including commercial tricycle operators who refused to support their cause.
The Police arrived the scene of the protest when it appeared to be getting out of hand and fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Rochas Okorocha Campaign Organisation, Iheukwumere Alaribe, described the protest by the PDP supporters as a demonstration of their displeasure with the Imo State branch of the Independent National Electoral Commission for failing to deliver the governorship election to the party.
According to the latest update, INEC says Imo state election is inconclusive as areas where results were cancelled have voting population of about 144,000, which is higher than the difference between the APC and the PDP.
Chibok Girls Seen Alive With Boko Haram
More than 50 of the girls abducted by Boko Haram militants in Nigeria last year were seen alive three weeks ago, a woman has told the BBC.
Chibok Girls Seen Alive With Boko Haram
She saw the girls in the north-eastern Gwoza town before the militants were driven out of there by regional forces.
Boko Haram sparked global outrage when it seized more than 219 girls from Chibok town a year ago.
The US, China and other foreign powers promised to help find the girls.
However, the girls have never been traced, and little has been heard of them since they were taken from their boarding school.
The whereabouts of the remaining girls is not clear.
Few weeks ago, a 56-year-old woman who was released by Boko Haram said that the Chibok girls abducted in April 2014 are being held in Gwoza town in Borno State.
According to the International Center for Investigative Reporting, icirnigeria.org, Mbutu Papka was kidnapped in July, 2014 and held by the insurgents in the same location as the abducted Chibok girls. Reportedly, the abducted girls are being kept under very tight security in a house in Gwoza.

There Were Severe Problems In Rivers, Akwa Ibom - EU Election Observer

The European Union (EU) Election Observation Mission (EOM) to Nigeria has said that the “severe problems” which characterised the just concluded elections in Rivers and Akwa Ibom States should be investigated.
There Were Severe Problems In Rivers, Akwa Ibom - EU Election Observer
According to Punch the Chief Observer of the EU, Mr. Santiago Fisas, noted in a statement on Monday that the April 11 governorship and state House of Assembly elections witnessed “more efficient polling” although there were “increased incidents of violence and interference‎.”
Credible reports show that problems were very severe in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states. These warrant further investigation,” the statement quoted Fisas as saying on Monday during the presentation of the mission’s second preliminary statement in a press conference in Abuja.
Fisas noted that there was remarkable improvement in the conduct of the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections over the Presidential and federal legislative elections.
The EU representative, who said his team would remain in Nigeria to monitor the election petition process, added that there was still need for “systematic improvement” in the electoral process.
The statement read in part, “Overall the April 11 election process appeared to be more efficient, with polling staff working diligently and improvements evident in the more timely opening of polling sites. However our findings also show space for systemic improvements. Procedural shortcomings continued to be prevalent.

“Card reader fingerprint verification was sometimes problematic, party agents were at times seen interfering in polling officials’ work, and essential ballot checks were not consistently performed during counting and collation,” said the Chief Observer.
“EU EOM observers saw no evidence of centralised systematic fraud although some attempts at manipulation were observed.”
‎The EOM also commended Nigerians, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other stakeholders including political parties and candidates “for the continued commitment to the electoral process.”
Fisas also encouraged those with grievances to address them through official channels. The Chief Observer called on candidates, parties and citizens to respond peacefully to the results.
The statement noted that the preliminary statement would be followed by a final report, “with recommendations for consideration by the Nigerian authorities, to be presented to the public at a later stage.”
Meanwhile the international election observers on Sunday April 12 called for the cancellation of the governorship and House of Assembly elections in Rivers state.

We deny Nigerians with criminal records visas - South Africa

Consul-General, South African High Commission in Nigeria, Ambassador Mogethi Monaisa, on Monday said the commission sometimes deny issuance of its visas to Nigerians it discovered to be having criminal records.
“The commission does not just deny people visas, but it is either that those it sometimes deny issuance of visas are discovered to have criminal records or failed to meet its requirements. Nigerians should personally visit our websites for necessary information and requirements for applying for South African visas,” Monaisa told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos
He said Nigerians should facilitate their visa processing by submitting it to VFS Global.
“This is the company that the commission has authorised to facilitate the processing of visa applications submitted by Nigerians. The South Africa High Commission wants Nigerians applying for visas to know that it is only VFS Global that is recognised by it to facilitate visa applications on its behalf,” Monaisa said.
The consul-general advised Nigerians to desist from patronising unauthorised agents and intermediaries who would charge them huge fees and end up without achieving any results, adding that such act was illegal.
"They should know that VFS is our only agent to handle issues of visas for the commission,” he said.
Monaisa said the commission would deny such Nigerians the South African visas if it discovered it, noting that the applicants would also forfeit the fees paid to such illegal agents. He assured Nigerian applicants seeking to obtain the South African visas that the commission would grant their requests as long as they satisfied the requirements guiding the issuance.

Police Doctors Confession Statements Of Culprits – Amaechi
Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers state has raised an alarm of a foul play orchestrated by the police in Rivers state in a move to doctor confession statements of electoral offenders in the just concluded Governorship and State House Of Assembly election in the state.

Speaking through David Iyofor, his Chief Press Secretary, Governor Amaechi alleged that information reaching the state government indicated that the Police in Rivers State wants to doctor the statements of about 110 persons arrested for electoral offences and crimes in Tai Local Government of Rivers State during Saturday’s elections.
According to the governor, the people allegedly arrested include: 75 NYSC members who are ad hoc staff of INEC.
He said those who were arrested with the electoral materials from nine wards by Mopol in Rivers State were caught thumb-printing ballot papers for PDP candidates in the private residence of a PDP chieftain in Tai.
But according to the governor of Rivers state, the state government had been reliably informed that the police will doctor their statements, in a bid to exonerate the culprits caught thumb-printing ballot papers for the PDP in Tai.
He further alleged that with this move, the culprits  can be subsequently released by the police.
This fresh allegation from the governor comes just hours before INEC announced the PDP governorship candidate, Nyesome Wike, winner of the governorship election in the state.

APC Wins Plateau Governorship Poll
Contrary to predictions that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will clear the governorship election in Plateau State after the party’s victory in March 28 presidential polls, the All Progressive Congress candidate has emerged the winner.
APC Wins Plateau Governorship Poll
Nigerians voting
Premium Times reports that APC gubernatorial candidate Simon Lalong, won the governorship seat with 564, 913 votes.
The returning officer for the governorship election, Emmanuel Kucha, who is the Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture Makurdi, declared the results in the early hours of Monday.
According to him, Mr. Lalong scored the highest number of votes cast in the Saturday, April 11 election, adding that the APC candidate defeated the PDP candidate, Gyang Pwajok, a serving senator representing Plateau north in the National Assembly, with 520,627 votes.
Mr. Lalong cleared 11 out of the 17 council areas of the state which include his home council area Shendam. Mr. Lalong defeated Mr. Pwajok in his home council area, Jos north, with 117,443 votes; while Mr. Pwajok’s kinsmen gave him 61,391 votes in Jos north.
The returning officer announced other council areas that gave the APC candidate victory to include Mikang local government, hometown of Mr. Pwajok’s Director General of Campaign Daniel Kumi, Bokkos, Mangu, Kanam, Jos east, Langtang north, Quanpan and Wase local government area.
Mr. Pwajok, however, pulled votes from Barkinladi, Riyom, Bassa, Kanke Langtang south and Jos south, which is the council area of incumbent Governor Jonah Jang.
It was gathered that security has been beefed up in most flashpoints within Jos metropolis following the announcement of the results.
Recall that a voter was shot dead by a security agent in Jos north council area for allegedly attempting to create commotion at a polling unit, but the elections were adjudged peaceful.
The polls were almost marred by low turnout of voters, with a few cases of irregularities recorded in some polling units. There were also cases of over voting in most polling units, which made APC agent to refuse signing results sheets from Riyom, Jos south and Bassa local government areas where the PDP won.
Meanwhile, Plateau State has been a stronghold of the ruling PDP since 1999. The party won the state in the just concluded presidential election held on March 28.
