Fashola Accuses GEJ Of Taking Glory For Lagos Project
Babatunde Fashola
According to Premium Times, Fashola expressed his discontent speaking at the seventh annual colloquium of the former governor of the state, Bola Tinubu, on March 25, 2015. According to the governor it was corrupt for the president to lay claim to a waterworks project in Lagos.
Jonathan’s campaign group had listed the Phase two water project at Adiyan, Lagos, as one the achievements of his administration, in order to assure Lagos people that the president had delivered it in the state.
“This morning on page 64 of the Guardian, I saw a list of accomplishment of the president in Lagos; there were others that they have built the road leading to the international airport. But what was disturbing was that they listed phase two waterworks as one of things the president have done in Lagos,” Fashola said.
Lagos State Governor stressed in his speech that the project was constructed by his administration, with funding from Lagos taxpayers’ money.
“I think that is cheap, a lie about something you did not do and I think it is corrupt. For the record, that waterworks is being constructed by the Lagos State government with tax payer’s money,” he added.
In November 2014, Reuben Abati, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the president, showcased projects executed by the Kano State Government as part of the legacy projects executed by the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration in the North-West geopolitical zone of the country.
On March 22, 2015, in a 10-part series of tweets Abati highlighted major projects that he said the Jonathan’s administration executed in the six North-West states of Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara.
The Kano state government, in its turn, accused the presidency of fraud and demanded an apology.
It would be noted that it was not the first time when Lagos State Governor voiced his criticism of the president’s actions.  A month ago Fashola blasted Goodluck Jonathan for his incessant visits to Lagos ahead of the presidential election.
Foolowing the tragedy, when armed men stormed the First City Monument Bank in Lekki,  the governor reacted with fury at the presidency.
