Fayose Supporters Cause Mayhem In Ado-Ekiti
Supporters of Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state have
taken their protests against the impeachment of the governor to a new
level after reportedly killing one person, stopping students from
writing their WAEC exams and chasing journalist who were reporting the
mayhem.
The victim according to Daily Independent
was killed in Efon Alaaye, Ekiti State on Tuesday. She was simply
identified as Modupe Olaiya and was gunned down at Efon – Alaaye
boundary where some pro-Fayose supporters had laid siege.
In Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, the mood was fouled as commuters were stranded for hours, as loyalists of the governor held sway. Journalists were not spared by the protesters’ fury.
All streets were deserted as students who were writing May -June WAEC, were also denied access to their respective centres. Civil servants who did not join the protest, also returned home.
In Oye-Ekiti where the protesters blocked Ekiti- Lokoja-Abuja roads, journalists who were going about their duties, irate youths vented their anger on them.
Government and commercial activities were paralyzed as the governor’s supporters blocked all roads leading into the state. Shop owners as well as commercial vehicle operators deserted the roads as palpable tension filled the air.
The premises of Ekiti State House of Assembly, which has become a battle ground of sort to the contending forces, was not spared, as the Fayose apologists took over the House.
