David Mark Says Nigeria Is Ready For Elections
David Mark, Senate president, announced on March 12 that
Nigeria was ready to conduct the general elections according to the
schedule, on March 28 and April 11.
The official made a claim while hosting the Irish Ambassador to Nigeria Sean Hoy, The Nigerian Tribune reports.
Mark also assured the international community of the authorities’ commitment to the provision of the democratic elections. He stated that the government would do nothing to undermine national interest.
He dismissed rumours about the alleged bad preparation for the polls and explained that the initial voting reschedule was necessary over the security situation and delay in PVCs distribution.
According to Mark, had the elections been held as scheduled in February, the results would be unfair, with more than 23 million of Nigerians lacking the cards.
“For now, things have positively improved and Nigerians are happy that the coast is clear for the conduct of credible elections that would be acceptable and in conformity with international standard.
“All stakeholders are pleased with the development and I am sure the outcome of the polls would reflect the wishes and aspirations of Nigerians.”
Mark called for the cooperation from the international community, to which the ambassador responded positively and pledged support from his home government towards a successful conduct of the general election.
