Encouraging Private Initiatives
Benue state Governor-elect, Dr Samuel Ortom this morning commissioned a Dredging Engine owned by Hon Mark Hanmation at river Benue. Dr Ortom called on individuals to take the bold step by engaging in such ventures as a way of boosting economic growth. He said his administration would encourage those with the determination to look inwards and create opportunities for development. The governor-elect also expressed confidence that "in one year of my administration, several of these sites will be opened to take the youths from the streets." Ortom said part of his engagement when he travelled to China was to hold discussions with companies who are into glass making, stressing that scientific research has placed high premium on the sharp sand from the Benue river for glass making. On his part, Hon Hanmation explained that the Dredging Equipment has the capacity to generate 1000 trucks of sharp sand for building and construction in less than 24 hours instead of the manual method. He gave assurances that his gesture would assist government in Dredging river Benue to give room for lighter ships to berth in Makurdi which will in turn create jobs for our teeming youths. The governor-elect was accompanied to the occasion by the state chairman of the APC, Comrade Abba Yaro, the state Organising Secretary, Hon Titus Zam and Hon Akor Ishoho.
