Science don't lie: Guys dig brunettes more than blondes

Common wisdom and Howard Hawkes' movie titles have long suggested that men prefer blondes over brunettes. But maybe that rumor got started in 1953 when Gentlemen Prefer Blondes came out. I love Jane Russell, but come on, that's hardly a fair comparison: 

Monroe obviously wins that aesthetic battle, but how much of that really has to do with the color of her hair? A more fair comparison would be brunette Marilyn vs. blonde Marilyn.

The nod still goes to the blonde hair, but they may have something to do with how we're used to seeing Monroe. The blonde hair is iconic. 

But what does science say? In fact, both formal and informal science suggest the opposite: Men prefer brunettes. Take, for instance, this poll of 2,000 men on a social networking site, where 60 percent preferred brunettes. This survey of 6,000 people also found that brunettes earn a higher salary and are considered more intelligent. In this survey, more men said they considered brunettes sexier, while 61 percent said they'd prefer to marry a brown-haired woman over a blonde. In this study of 1500 men, where the same woman was rated with blonde, red, and brunette hair, over half of the men said they preferred the brunette version. A research study at Florida State University also reveals that men prefer brunettes over blondes by a rate of 46 to 19 percent. Another study reveals that men prefer brunettes because, biologically, they consider them healthier and therefore better life mates. 

Science don't lie, folks. It's not a slam dunk, but overall, men do prefer brunettes to blondes. How do we feel? Let's do our own informal survey and examine 17 women as both blondes and brunettes. How often do you prefer the brunette version, and how often do you prefer the blonde (in your comment, also indicate your own gender and hair color, so we can account for bias). Senate Suggest 2-Year Jail Term for Offenders of False Statements on Social Media

A bill seeking a two-year jail term for any person who makes false allegation or publishes any statement or petition in the newspaper,radio or medium of whatever description against another person,institutions of government or any public office holder, passed second reading in the Senate on Wednesday.
The bill also prescribed that anybody or group of persons who send any false text message or post false message on the social media against another person shall be jailed for two years upon conviction by the law court.The bill,tagged: “A Bill for an Act to Prohibit frivolous Petitions and other Matters Connected therewith”, sponsored by Senator Ibn Na’Allah, APC, Kebbi South, compels petitioners to accompany their petitions with sworn court affidavit, failure of which attracts a six- month imprisonment upon conviction.
But the bill provides for an option of N4 million for persons convicted of false newspaper,radio and television statements and N2 million for offenders of false phone text messages or messages on facebook,twitter,instagram,or whatsApp.
“Where any person in order to circumvent this law makes any allegation and or publish any statement,petition in any paper,radio,or any medium of whatever description, with malicious intent to discredit or set the public against any person or group of persons, institutions of government,he shall be guilty of an offence and upon conviction,shall be liable to an imprisonment term of two years or a fine of N4,000,000.00”,the bill specified.
On the social media,the bill read: “Where any person through text message,tweets, whatsApp or through any social media post any abusive statement knowing same to be false with intent to set the public against any person and group of persons, an institution of government or such other bodies established by law shall be guilty of an offence and upon conviction,shall be liable to an imprisonment for two years or a fine of N2,000,000.00 or both fine and imprisonment.”
The bill said it shall be an offence for any petition to be submitted without a sworn affidavit from the law court.

Nigerian who sold guns, bullets to criminals in the UK jailed for 16 years

A notorious 'godfather' who sold machines guns to criminals in Birmingham while at the heart of a gang which gunned down two innocent girls in a botched attack has been jailed for 16 years. Nigerian Nosakhere Stephenson, 41, (pictured left) masterminded an operation to sell antique firearms and specially-made bullets to criminals around the West Midlands city. Fitzroy Ducram (right), known as one of Nosa's right hand men was jailed for more than seven years 

Police say the gun dealer, known as 'Nosa', believed he was 'untouchable' as he ran the operation alongside fellow gang members from inside the infamous Burger Bar Boys gang.

The gang - which for years fought a bloody and protracted feud with the rival Johnson Crew - trafficked weapons including a MAC 10 machine gun, a brutal weapon which was used in one of Birmingham's most notorious murders.

Letisha Shakespeare and Charlene Ellis were innocent victims caught in the crossfire of the two warring gangs, whose turf war blighted the Aston area of Birmingham for over a decade and cost dozens of lives.

Their murders, which took place in 2003, propelled Birmingham’s gun crime problem into the national headlines and kick-started campaigns by residents who had grown tired of the daily acts of violence. 

Eighteen men have now been convicted for a series of offences relating to the criminal firearms operation which Stephenson ran.  

As he was jailed for 16 years, Detective Constable Phil Rodgers said the police operation - and subsequent haul of dozens of weapons and ammunition - had undoubtedly prevented more murders in the city. 

The court heard how the gang had thousands of rounds of ammunition specially made to be used with guns and revolvers, which they sold for about £3,000 each.

Although Stephenson was never caught in possession of the guns, phone records linked him to each deal and every other person in the conspiracy - including his right-hand man, Sundish Nazran, who was jailed for 13 years.

Ex-Apple employee left his house so filthy neighbours thought there was a dead body inside

37-year-old Robert Kummer, a former Apple employee, has been jailed for a year for causing £5000 worth of damage to a house that had cost the owner €160000 to renovate. He left piles of rubbish so high they reached the countertops and smeared excrement on the walls, floors and ceilings of the flat.

It took the unfortunate landlord, Michael Mulligan six months to clean because he couldn't afford a cleaner at the time. The 37-year-old German was caught after horrified neighbours called in the police fearing the foul smell was a dead body.

Psychiatrist Dr John Dennehy said Kummer might have been depressed but was “at a loss to explain his behaviour”.
